Work Hour Information


Starting with the 2007 - 2008 hockey season, the Board decided to implement a plan for members to volunteer their time and talents to keep Wadena Hockey running smoothly and effectively. Hopefully the information provided here will help you understand how this new "Work Hour" system will work. If you have any questions about this new system, please get a hold of your team's board member.

A big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to fill out their work slips which helps make this program run much smoother!

Here’s how it works:

  • New families will donate 15 hours of time.
  • Families with one skater will donate 35 hours of time.
  • Families with two or more skaters will donate 50 hours of time.

Members will have from September 1 to August 30 to complete all of their work hours. The cost of unfulfilled hours is $10.00 per hour which will be billed on September 1 of the expired year.

Eligible work hours include, but are not limited to:

  • Building improvement projects, such as painting or repairs
  • Putting ice in or taking ice out
  • Pre-season arena preparation
  • General arena clean up
  • Concession stand Shifts
  • Non-home tournament helper
  • Registration help
  • Fall league help
  • Committee member
  • Skate sharpening
  • Zamboni Driver
  • Fundraiser help - haunted house, blue line bids
  • Team Positions – caller, equipment manager, tournament coordinator
  • Game score book – 1 hour per game
  • Game scoreboard – 1 hour per game
  • Game penalty box – 1 hour per game
  • Team related work hours approved by parent director
  • General Club hours approved by a board member

(Next season, there will be additions to eligible work hours such as being a board member, parent director and committee head)

Non-eligible hours include, but are not limited to:

  • Self appointed team helper
  • Fundraiser selling

To have work hours credited correctly, members must fill out a work hours slip and it MUST be signed by a board member. Please be sure to have the family name on the slip, as that is how it is being recorded; and make sure the work hour slip is legible. Hours worked will be posted on the Website and at the arena. It will be updated approximately every two weeks.
